On-line Critical and Creative Thinking courses & Distance Ed
NOTE to ONLINE STUDENTS: You need a UMass student email to access the webCT platform for online courses. Many things about how the course operates and how to get technical help become much clearer once you access the syllabus for the course on webCT. As soon as you register (or beforehand if you are already a UMass student), apply for the email account. Read this for lots of other information, arranged in systematic steps.
While you are waiting to get an UMass email address email the instructor to make contact and join in activities that do not depend on webCT. The instructors' email addresses are listed on the faculty page.
Matriculated M.A. students MUST get the permission of the Program co-ordinator to take on-line versions of courses that are also offered face-to-face. We want our M.A. students to be part of the face to face community, so permission will be granted only in exceptional circumstances (such as the
student has moved out of state and needs that course to graduate).
Distance Ed: Some of CCT's face2face courses are designed to bring in a small number of students from a distance by speakerphone (or "voice over the internet") during regular class meeting times. (Contact the Program for details and the Program Director for approval.) It is therefore possible to complete the entire M.A. at a distance by: undertaking the Certificate through online and distance courses; getting approval to transfer to the M.A. program; and participating in the remaining regular classes at a distance.
